West Surrey Engineering Group





The "West Surrey Engineering Racing team", as it was originally known, commenced it's racing activities in early 1979 as a Formula Ford Team. Former BBC Grand Prix commentator Jonathan Palmer was an early driver and in 1981, led the teams first assault on the F3 Championship.
Jonathan won that year's championship providing sound foundations for future success. Drivers such as Ayrton Senna, Mauricio Gugelmin, Mika Hakkinen and Rubens Barichello added further championships as the team powered to become one of the most
successful Formula Three teams ever!.
Other drivers have included Bertrand Gachot, Roland Ratzenburger, Eddie Irvine, Alan McNish, Christian Fittipaldi, Jordi Gene and Pedro Dinez - with Roberto Moreno and Damon Hill both having connections with West Surrey Racing during the early stages of their career.
In 1992 the team became an independent company under the guidance of Managing Director Dick Bennetts. For the next few years the team continued to set the standards in Formula 3 until, in 1996, they entered the British Touring Car Championship.
Having run, at various times, the works Ford,
Honda and MG Teams, they will be running the BMW 320Si E90 during 2007. In
addition, they race in the A1 GP Series.
